24 Hour Comics Day: The Aftermath

Clocking in at 18 hours, 49 minutes I completed 72 individual comic strips that make up a 24 page comic when laid out 3 strips to a page. All I can say is: Whew!

There was something nice about being able to immerse myself in comics for so long. Usually when I write a comic I don’t draw it for days, weeks or even months later. But to write an entire story within 4 hours and have all of the drawing done 15 hours later… I’ve never been so excited creating comics in my life.

I used the same Wacom felt nib through comic #55. It got so worn out, the side of the tablet pen was rubbing the tablet surface, so I had to replace it. I want to post a picture of the nib so you can see what a blown out felt nib looks like before and after, but I’m having trouble getting the camera to focus so small.

The comics will run on their normal weekly schedule for the rest of 2007 (so I don’t have to preempt the other series on this site), starting November 1st. But in January, every day (including weekends!) will feature a new comic from this project. This is so it doesn’t take a year and a half to cycle through all the comics.

I think next year I might create a “normal” comic book, rather than utilize the day to get ahead on my strips. It may or may not be easier to create 24 comic book pages than try to create 72 individual strips. The writing alone should be easier since I won’t have to try to make a joke every three panels. But the main part is that it won’t have to severely affect my comic schedule. I’ll be able to just post the comics on the day of the event and not make people wait to read it.

Now to catch up on my sleep for next year…
