Website now ready

Friday, May 4th, 2007

As stated with the placeholder comic, this website is pretty much ready to begin receiving comics updates. Thank you to everyone who has already subscribed via RSS. I may post regular, non-comic blogs from time to time from now until July 2nd, just so there’s actually SOMETHING going on here.

So, keep an eye on your RSS reader of choice.

Comics Triple Crown - Online Comics Day, Cartoonist’s Day and Free Comic Book Day!

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Tomorrow is May 5th! What’s that mean? Cinco de Mayo, right? Well, yeah… but it also happens to contain three comics related events all on the same day:

1. Free Comic Book Day

2. Cartoonist’s Day

3. Online Comics Day

Support one or all three! For me comics are comics no matter where they’re displayed. But some people get all technical about it, “Webcomics are bad because they’re not newspaper comics (or vice versa),” or, “Comic books are a whole separate animal then comic strips, therefore if I’m into comic strips I cannot read comic books (again, or vice versa),” or worst of all, “I see no value in comics of any form because they’re for kids (no comment.)” My personal advocacy for comics being online has more to do with progress than preference. Ultimately, I treat comic books and comic strips on equal terms: if I like the individual content then I like it. But I’m not gonna wash out the whole medium or segregated portions thereof from my list of things I like just because I didn’t care for last week’s Penny Arcade or Zits or Action Comics (I’m not dissing PA, Zits or Supes, they’re just examples.)

Which is why this Saturday is going to be an exciting day.

The biggest summer ever!

Monday, May 7th, 2007

I could be wrong, but I believe that this summer is the single largest movie summer ever. There have been some packed ones in the past, but this year has the largest amount of popular, potentially popular and shouldn’t be popular, but will be anyway, new movies and sequels set for release between May and August than I can ever remember. There’s Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3, Harry Potter 5, Fantastic Four 2, Borne Ultimatum (Borne Identity 3), Rush Hour 3, plus, newcomers that should prove popular like, Transformers, The Simpson’s Movie and Ratatouille. Add in themilking-a-concept-for-all-it’s-worth movies like Ocean’s 13, Die Hard 4, Evan Almighty (aka “Bruce Almighty 2 without Jim Carrey”), Hostel 2 (blech!) and Surf’s Up (surfing penguins. Whoo.), and you’ve got one full summer.

And that’s not to mention several other sequels I’d rather not fry your brain by alerting you to their very existence. Okay, I’ll do one… (more…)

Ask and ye shall receive

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Recently I was talking with my wife about the state of certain shows on TV right now. Specifically Lost and Gilmore Girls. I stated that Gilmore Girls needed to call it quits after this season and Lost needed to wrap up its convoluted storyline before it ran even further down a back alley, got lost and then canceled before it could find the light again (like Alias before it.)

Regarding Gilmore Girls, (more…)

Comics progress update

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Things are trucking right along. I just finished writing the first BarnRats arc. I’m doing the writing/drawing for the all the series in six month increments so I can have a good lead time. If all goes well, not only will the comics starting going live July 2nd, but every blogComic for the rest of 2007 will be sitting in the queue on that day as well. That will leave me free to work on the first half of 2008.

As far as drawing goes, I am still in awe of how much the Wacom tablet opens up the possibilities for comics. Â I can try out experiments in a fraction of the time it used to take me. Which is better for everyone since before I would often churn out a mediocre piece and have to deal cause I didn’t have time to redo it. Now I can crank stuff out, and the only thing holding me back is my own drawing abilitly.

Marvel vs. DC Part II

Superman Returns explained at last. Of course it’s ironic they mentioned Bryan Singer making X-Men, because he made Superman Returns, too. So what’s the deal with that?

Wii + RSS + Google = Awesome

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

I found out that Google has made a Wii-specific spin-off of their RSS reader, Google Reader. It’s the reader I personally use so I don’t even have to do anything extra, I just go to the link on my Wii, login, and my exsiting feed subscriptions are already there.

It was possible before to read the feeds on the Wii from the regular Google Reader page and the iGoogle page, but it wasn’t very user-friendly. Making it specially tuned is great.

If you happen to have a Wii and you like RSS feeds, check it out.
